Configuring the SetPoint Button Tool

The SetPoint Button Tool has numerous properties available for configuration. The following procedure describes a basic workflow for configuring a SetPoint Button to write a point value to an existing point.

To Configure a SetPoint Button

  1. Using CygNet Studio in Edit mode, locate the Command Tools palette, click the SetPoint Button tool icon SetPoint Button tool icon, then click on the TheView. This places the tool on TheView of your screen.
  2. Right-click the newly added tool to open its Property Sheet.
  3. Beside the [SetPoint] property, click the Browse button, to open the SetPoint Properties dialog box.
  4. Configure settings on the various SetPoint property pages as required:
  1. Use options on the General page to do the following:
  1. Specify the target point.
  2. Optional: Indicate if you want to see a confirmation when the target point's value is set.
  3. Optional: Indicate if you want to set a timeout limit for the SetPoint operation, and specify the number of seconds.
  1. Use options on the Default Value page to do the following:
  1. Optional: Specify the point data type of the target point
  2. Optional: Specify the default value of the target point, which can be: a specific value, a value of a point attribute from the target point, or a current value of another point.
  3. Specify the timestamp to be used when setting a value for a target point, which can be current time or custom time (absolute or relative).
  4. Specify how you want to handle the unreliable point status bit when setting the value for a target point. Options include: do nothing, set, or clear.
  1. Use options on the Prompt page to do the following:
  1. Optional: Specify the captions, instructional message, background colors, and fonts for the prompt dialog box and its buttons.
  2. Optional: Specify the display state for the value setting: editable, read-only, or hidden.
  3. Optional: Configure analog settings and the use of a slider control, with a configurable minimum and maximum data range.
  4. Optional: Chose whether to display units and their source on the prompt.
  5. Optional: Specify the display state for the timestamp setting: editable, read-only, or hidden.
  6. Optional: Specify the display state for the unreliable bit setting: editable, read-only, or hidden.
  7. Optional: Preview the prompt for accuracy.
  1. Use options on the Status page to do the following:
  1. Optional: Configure a status point to monitor the status of the SetPoint operation as it completes.
  2. Optional: Specify an initial value, initialization delay, and manual update mode setting for the status point.
  3. Optional: Configure other advanced settings: disable the button while the SetPoint operation is executing, specify a timeout value for status point monitoring, indicate that the SetPoint operation is complete when the status point value matches the specified target point value, and indicate that the SetPoint operation is complete when the status point value matches any of a list of completion values.
  1. When you are finished configuring the SetPoint Button Tool, click Apply and OK to save your settings, save the screen, then open the tool in Run mode to verify that it is working as expected.
